We are excited to announce Jessica Holbert's "Trash Man" as the stand-out winner of our 2020 In-House Contest! Juggling three plotlines in only 4,000 words, the boundless creativity of "Trash Man" uncovers a world in which characters struggle to figure out what they deserve while the trash piles up in the streets. Jessica Holbert's story will be published in the July 2020 issue, only a few months away!

Finalists

"Moss Mouth" by Jacob Bingham

"Some Survive and Others Do Not" by Amelia Martens

"Hope Was High" by Carrie Grinstead

Lastly, we want to extend our warmest gratitude to everyone who submitted to the contest, including the ten additional semi-finalists. There were hundreds of wonderful short stories sent in, and many of them deserve—and will find—publication. We are ecstatic to continue to publish works of literary fiction that forefront language and take narrative, structural, and thematic risks, and the support of our community of readers and submitters is continually cherished and appreciated.
